Conference at Vienna, Austria: Beyond the Byzantine Euchologion: Priestly Prayers and People's Concerns in the Christian East
27-29 November, 2025
How are prayers for everyday occasions from the medieval Byzantine tradition translated and adapted in different contexts? This three-day conference hosted by the Vienna Euchologia Project investigates their use in medieval and early modern communities that are related or adjacent to the Byzantine tradition but pray in languages other than Greek. Papers will address a wide range of language traditions: Nubian, Coptic, Syriac, Arabic, Slavonic, Romanian, Armenian, and Georgian.
Location: Austrian Academy of Sciences Institute for Medieval Research, 3rd floor, Lecture Hall 3A, Georg-Coch-Platz 2, 1010 VIENNA
