Postdoctoral Research Affiliate Program 2026-2027

Boğaziçi University Byzantine Studies Research Center, Istanbul

The Boğaziçi University Byzantine Studies Research Center in Istanbul invites applications for its Postdoctoral Research Affiliate Program for the 2026-2027 academic year. The program is intended particularly for scholars who would benefit from spending a period in Istanbul and from access to the academic resources and scholarly community of Boğaziçi University while developing a research project in Late Antique or Byzantine studies. Applications are welcome from both early-career and established researchers who hold a PhD in late antique and Byzantine history, art history, architectural history, archaeology, or related fields.

Candidates may apply for either short- or longer-term periods during:

  • Fall Semester 2026 (1 October-31 December 2026)
  • Spring Semester 2027 (1 February-31 May 2027)
  • Fall and Spring Semesters 2026–2027 (1 October 2026-31 May 2027)
  • Summer 2027 (1 June-31 August 2027)

Research Affiliates will be provided with institutional affiliation with the Byzantine Studies Research Center, office/workspace at the Center (Hisar Campus), and access to the Boğaziçi University library. They will also have the opportunity to participate in the academic activities of the Center and to benefit from academic guidance and mentorship during their affiliation. Affiliates will have access to relevant services and resources of Boğaziçi University, subject to University regulations, including the swimming pool and other sports facilities.

Application

Applicants should submit:

  • a curriculum vitae
  • a brief description of the proposed research project
  • a statement indicating the preferred period and duration of affiliation

The Research Affiliate Program does not constitute employment at Boğaziçi University and does not provide a salary or stipend. Research Affiliates are expected to cover their own travel, accommodation, and living expenses.
