MA and PhD Scholarships in Byzantine Studies (2021-2022)
(I) MELLON FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP FOR THE M.A. PROGRAM IN BYZANTINE STUDIES
The Byzantine Studies Research Center at Boğaziçi University is pleased to announce three scholarships for the M.A. program in the field of Byzantine studies at the Department of History for the 2021-2022 academic year. The scholarships are open to candidates applying to the M.A. program of the History Department at Boğaziçi University. Applicants from any country with an interest in Byzantine history, art history, and archaeology are encouraged to apply.
The scholarship is funded by the Mellon Foundation on the basis of an annual total of $6,000 net, provided that the accepted candidates continue to meet necessary academic requirements throughout the year. Successful foreign candidates living abroad will be eligible for a supplementary grant (max. $1,500) towards one-time airfare and health insurance. Please note that recipients of the scholarship cannot be employed in any institution.
Application deadline is 3 June 2021 (8:00 PM local time).
Application procedure: Applicants should follow the admission procedures for the M.A. program of the History Department at Boğaziçi University. They should express their wish to be considered for the scholarship either by e-mail (byzantinestudies@bogazici.edu.tr) or by a statement on their answer sheet for the written exam, which will take place on June 3rd, 2021.

(III) MELLON FOUNDATION SHORT-TERM TRAVEL GRANTS IN BYZANTINE STUDIES FOR M.A. AND PH.D. STUDENTS
The Byzantine Studies Research Center at Boğaziçi University is pleased to announce short-term travel grants in the field of Byzantine studies for M.A. or Ph.D. students enrolled at the Department of History, Boğaziçi University. The aim of the grant is to sponsor the expenses of the successful candidate for acquiring language skills, for participating in a conference, or for conducting research in libraries and/or museums within or outside Turkey during the 2021-2022 academic year. Each grant, funded by the Mellon Foundation, offers up to $1,500 for the above-mentioned expenses to be spent during the 2021-2022 academic year.
Candidates should submit their application to the Byzantine Studies Research Center at Boğaziçi University before 30 June 2021. The application file should be in English and include a statement of purpose (a project proposal of up to 1,500 words if the trip is intended for research), an expected budget for expenses, a detailed CV, and a transcript.
